D4 7U has a curb weight of 10,510 pounds. Caterpillar Model D4 was produced from 1939-1959 with 84,497 made. Ours is No 15689 a 1951 model. Our model has a BIRTLEY blade. The Birtley company of Durham, England made these under license to Caterpillar then the Cat company took them over in 1963. The blades are solid as a rock and U shaped frame. In 1947, a revised D4 (6U/7U) model was introduced, and it was equipped with the Cat D315 four-cylinder diesel engine rated at 48 belt-horsepower. Both engine variations on the D4 proved very popular in the marketplace, and with regular updates in horsepower remained on the product line all the way up to 1959.
